Exploring Armenian History, Culture, and Music: A Presentation at Hathaway Brown School

This year, Fr. Hratch Sargsyan and Maga Markosyan had the privilege of visiting Hathaway Brown School for an engaging exploration of Armenian history, culture, music, and resilience. The presentations offered students a window into the rich heritage of the Armenian people and their remarkable ability to persevere through challenges.

Fr. Hratch spoke to two different classes, delivering impactful presentations on The Power of Resilience and Resourcefulness in the Armenian Community. He shared historical insights, including the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and the ongoing crisis in Artsakh, and highlighted the enduring spirit and ingenuity of the Armenian people. These lessons served as a powerful testament to the importance of preserving cultural identity and faith through adversity.

Maga Markosyan brought energy and joy to the event with her dynamic session on Armenian dance. She began by sharing her personal journey as a dance instructor, giving students a glimpse into her passion and dedication to Armenian dance.

Maga then taught the students a couple of simple yet lively Armenian folk dances, bringing excitement and encouraging participation. To top it off, the students were encouraged to dance freestyle to Armenian music, creating a fun and memorable moment that filled the room with energy and laughter.

This year’s event was a wonderful blend of education and entertainment, promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation for Armenian heritage. Through storytelling, music, and dance, the presentations highlighted the beauty, strength, and vibrancy of the Armenian community, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. It was truly a celebration of culture and connection! We thank Gegam Dervishyan and Sveta Mkrtchyan for joining us at the HB school and a special thanks to Sveta for capturing the event with photos and videos.
