At the beginning of April, the Church School organized the Eastern Wheatgrass Project, inviting Church School students and families to take part in a beautiful Armenian Easter tradition. Today, after 2 weeks of care and patience, the wheatgrass has grown lush and green—ready to be adorned with brightly colored Easter eggs.
For generations, Armenian households have grown wheatgrass in during Lent, preparing for the joyous celebration of Easter. The tradition symbolizes the cycle of life, death, and resurrection—mirroring Christ’s words in the Gospel: “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (John 12:24) We thank Yn. Naira, for creating the lesson and guiding this meaningful project and helping keep alive the sacred traditions that deepen our understanding of Christ’s Resurrection and the beauty of new life. Many thanks is to Junior teacher Tatev who led the Easter wheatgrass lesson and the video instructional, and many thanks to assistant teachers Ellena, Mane, Ruzanna. Following this great project children also learned more about sustainability through a lively presentation and discussion by Louise Demirjian and Siran Hajinazarian. |
