Community Screening: “Tigran the Great: Between East and West”

On Friday evening, December 19, members of the Armenian community gathered at the OSU Fawcett Center Theater for a special community screening of the documentary “Tigran the Great: Between East and West.” Despite the cold winter weather and the busy days leading into the Christmas season, the hall was filled with families, friends, and community members eager to share in an evening of history, culture, and fellowship.

The one-hour documentary powerfully recounts the life and legacy of Tigran the Great, the most influential ruler in Armenian history and one of the dominant monarchs of the ancient world. Under his leadership, Armenia reached its greatest territorial and cultural heights, forming an empire that stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caspian. The film offered both historical depth and reflection on how Tigran’s legacy continues to shape Armenian identity and pride today.

The evening opened with welcoming remarks that highlighted the significance of coming together as a community, especially during the Christmas season. Cultural and historical gatherings such as this are vital opportunities for strengthening communal bonds and passing on Armenian heritage to younger generations, helping them better understand their roots and identity.

Sincere gratitude was extended to the organizers who made the event possible, particularly Dr. Hagop Mekhjian and Tigran Safaryan for their leadership, as well as Harut Koulian and Dr. Vahagn Zakaryan for their support and dedication in organizing the screening.

The community was also honored to welcome special guests who traveled to Columbus for the event, including Ani Simonian, head of Armenians Unified, and Aleksander Khachatryan, the lead actor featured in the film. Following the screening, Mr. Khachatryan joined attendees for a thoughtful and engaging Q&A session, offering insights into the film and its historical context and responding to questions from the audience.

The evening concluded with conversation, light refreshments, and a shared sense of pride in Armenian history and culture. Events like this serve as meaningful reminders of the importance of gathering, learning, and celebrating together as a community—ensuring that our history remains alive and relevant for generations to come.
