Welcoming Students for a Learning Visit at St. Gregory of Narek Armenian Church

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming nearly forty students from the Holocaust & Genocide Studies classes at New London High School, led by Misty Ebinger. The visit was organized as part of the students’ ongoing education on genocide awareness and the history of the Armenian people.

During their time at the church, the students were warmly received and given a guided tour of the sanctuary. We offered a brief historical overview of Armenian Christianity, helping students understand the deep roots of the Armenian faith tradition and the important role the Armenian Church has played throughout Armenian history.

The students also had the opportunity to see liturgical items and clergy vestments up close. Each piece was explained, allowing them to learn about the meaning, symbolism, and purpose of the sacred objects used in the worship life of the Armenian Church.

Following the tour, the group gathered in the cultural hall for a luncheon, followed by a presentation and Q&A session with Ara Bagdasarian. Ara also provided the students with Forget-Me-Not pins and informational printouts, helping reinforce their understanding of the Armenian Genocide and its lasting historical significance.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Misty Ebinger for bringing her students to St. Gregory of Narek Armenian Church and for her dedication to educating young people about history and genocide awareness. We are also thankful to Ara and Jay Bagdasarian for their generous support and for sponsoring the luncheon for the students.

It was a joy and an honor to host these students and share the life of the Armenian Church, our faith traditions, and the enduring story of the Armenian people. We are grateful for the opportunity to reinforce the important lessons they are already learning under the leadership of their outstanding teacher.
