Our Lenten Friday Prayer & Featured Speaker series continued with another meaningful evening of prayer, reflection, and learning. We gathered first in prayer, allowing the stillness and reverence of the Lenten season to center our hearts and prepare us to receive both spiritual and practical wisdom.
Our featured presentation, “Preparing the Body with Wisdom and Faith — Pain Management, Surgery, and Trust in God’s Care,” was offered by Dr. Rafi Avitsian, Professor of Anesthesiology, Program Director of the Neuroanesthesiology Fellowship, and Vice Chair for Professional Development in the Department of General Anesthesiology, and lenten dinner was hosted by Kristine Baghdasaryan.
Dr. Avitsian offered valuable insights into the history of anesthesia and the role of modern medicine in preparing for and recovering from surgery. He helped demystify aspects of anesthesia and surgical care, guiding us to better understand how the body is cared for in moments of vulnerability and healing. His presentation emphasized the importance of being informed, prepared, and attentive stewards of our physical health.
At the same time, he reminded us that faith plays an essential role in these experiences. In moments of uncertainty, fear, or physical suffering, we are called not only to trust in the hands of skilled physicians, but ultimately to place our confidence in God’s care and providence. Wisdom and faith, working together, allow us to face even difficult medical journeys with peace and hope.
A thoughtful and enriching evening that encouraged us to care for our bodies with knowledge and intention, while entrusting every step of our lives, especially in times of pain and healing into the loving hands of God.
